“Apple is considering the iPhone’s switchable 60Hz/120Hz refresh rate screen in 2020 and is talking to Samsung and LG,” Ice Universe tweeted on Sunday.

The leaker, which goes by the @UniverseIce Twitter handle, generally does not comment on the plans of Apple but is a well-respected source of rumors from Samsung. Samsung provided the iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max OLED panels for Apple.

In its iPad Pro models, Apple already utilizes variable refresh rate technology, but they still use LCD panels instead of OLED. Bringing it to a fresh OLED iPhone breed would increase the performance bar of the smartphone even greater.

Apple markets the iPad Pro-exclusive tech under the “ProMotion” moniker, which says the display is dynamically adjusted for fluid scrolling content movement, greater responsiveness, and smoother movement. On the fly, it does all this, which means that it also retains battery life.

Apple’s adaptive ProMotion IAPs are also reducing Apple Pencil latency, and Ming-Chi Kuo, a reliable Apple analyst, has said Apple Pencil support is a potential for future iPhone support.

Previous rumors have suggested that Apple will finish its shift with new 5.4-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.7-inch phones to an all-OLED iPhone lineup by 2020. Apple is expected to launch a trio of new iPhones this September before 2020, including two 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED higher-end models and one 6.1-inch lower-end LCD model.
