Google Images redesigned with side panels to compare results easily

Google Images redesigned with side panels to compare results easily. Google’s Image Search tab has been updated with a new design allowing users to easily compare images. In contrast to the previous design, which was slow and opened a large info box directly in search around the image, the new design opens the image in a static sidebar that remains in place while the rest of the image search results are scrollable.

The New design was implemented on the desktop of Google Images. The primary change is the large side panel that stays in place when users scroll through the remaining search results. The side panel shows the image, the page from which it originates, and the other features of Google Images, including buttons for share, bookmark, and collection.

In the side panel, users can scroll down independently of the results of the image search to see other images similar to the one selected. The side panel also includes useful information for products featured in a selected image including the brand and price.

These product listings in the side panel of Google Images also show reviews from others who purchased the product where applicable. The overall experience is seamless, requiring fewer clicks to provide more information while maintaining the original image search results — or allowing the user to continue browsing through them.

Google points out that the new design is better for publishers and retailers as users can easily click to the location of the image. The new design has begun to roll out today and is available for desktop users accessing Google Images.
