List of 7 Methods to Fix Keyboard Not Working in Windows 11

If your keyboard isn’t working with Windows 11, you’ll need to troubleshoot the issue. To assist you, below are several keyboard fixes you can try right away.

Method #1: Reconnect Your Wired Keyboard

When you have an external keyboard attached to your Windows 11 PC, verify the connection first. Whenever you have a wired keyboard, unplug it and replug it to ensure it is correctly connected. If everything is in order, you should hear the USB “chime.”

If it fails, the problem could be with the USB port, so try another one. Adapters can also be problematic, so if you’re using a USB-C to USB-A adapter, for example, you should try another adaptor to rule it out as the source of the problem.

Method #2: Update the keyboard driver

We’ll update our keyboard drivers because it could be one of the reasons it’s not being detected correctly.

  1. Using the search option in the start menu, navigate to the Device Manager.
  2. Now, in the “Keyboards” area, right-click on the adapter that displays and select “Update driver.”
  3. Now, select “Search for drivers automatically,” and the system will look for them using Windows Update.
  4. Then you’ll receive a notification indicating you already have the best drivers installed, & your keyboard should now function properly.

We recommend restarting your computer to implement the adjustments and ensure that the keyboard functions properly again.

Method #3: Repair a Bluetooth Keyboard

Make sure Bluetooth is enabled and that you can connect to your device in the Settings menu before using a wireless keyboard. A connection can be repaired by manually disconnecting and rejoining your device.

Open the Settings menu (through Start) and select Bluetooth & devices. First, make sure Bluetooth is turned on. If it is, but Windows is unable to recognise it, try pairing it again to see if it works. To do this, press Add device and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Some keyboards require an additional wireless dongle from the manufacturer to function. If you are unable to connect, ensure that it is connected and that any required drivers or software is up to current.
