Huawei Mate 30 and Mate X is shipping without the Play Store and all other Google apps. Huawei will not be able to send either the Mate 30/Mate 30 Pro or the Mate X with any Google apps and services, according to The Nikkei Asian Review. That means no Google Play Store, Chrome, Gmail, YouTube, Maps, and so on have been pre-installed.

The loss of the app store is definitely the biggest blow, along with the Google Play Services suite that many third-party apps rely on for proper functioning. The Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro, and Mate X will still operate Android, only the open-source version, not the one with the blessing of Google, which is what we’ve all been accustomed to using in recent years.

As you might have inferred, all this has to do with the U.S. government has placed Huawei on the so-called “entity list,” which prevents U.S. businesses from doing business with it. That includes Google and it’s a business deal to license its app suite, so it’s also covered.

Analysts estimate that this will hit hard as you would expect Huawei’s smartphone shipments. Outside China, sales could drop by 30 percent or more. On September 19, the Mate 30 series becomes official, while the Mate X may go on sale as early as next month.
