This is the second build to be released to the Beta channel, which allows users to try out the identical Windows 11 builds that will be released to the Dev channel. This could signal that the OS is approaching relative stability, with future versions focusing on bug fixes and preparing it for general release. The Dev channel will eventually transition to newer development builds that will be released next year.

There are a number of known issues that users should be aware of in addition to the large list of repairs and enhancements. Some difficulties are unique to the Beta channel, such as the inability to see the Taskbar or Start menu after upgrading from Windows 10. The company has provided a remedy for the problem.

Windows 11 Bugs

The following is a complete list of known issues in this Windows 11 build:

  • [REMINDER] Some functions may be deprecated or removed when upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 or after applying an update to Windows 11. Details can be found here.
We’re looking into an issue where just the “Stop getting preview builds” option is shown in Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program on some devices. Insiders are unable to choose a channel as a result of this. On Answers, we’ve posted a workaround.
  • [BETA Channel] We’re looking into concerns from Insiders in the Beta Channel who say they don’t see the new Taskbar after upgrading to Windows 11 and the Start menu doesn’t work. If you’re having trouble, try heading to Windows Update > Update history, deleting the most recent cumulative update for Windows, and then reinstalling it by checking for updates.
  • Start:
    • When using Search from Start or the Taskbar, you may be unable to enter text in some circumstances. If the problem persists, open the Run dialogue box by pressing WIN + R on the keyboard, then dismiss it.
    • When right-clicking on the Start button (WIN + X), System and Windows Terminal are absent.
  • Taskbar:
    • When switching input methods, the Taskbar will sometimes flicker.
  • Search:
    • The Search panel may not open after clicking the Search button on the Taskbar. Restart the “Windows Explorer” process and reopen the search panel if this happens.
    • Recent searches may not appear when you hover your mouse over the Search button on the Taskbar. Restart your computer to get around the problem.
    • The search panel may seem dark, with no content beneath the search box.
  • Widgets:
    • It’s possible that the widgets board is empty. You can get around the problem by signing out and then back in again.
    • It’s possible that connections from the widgets board won’t bring apps to the foreground.
    • External displays may display widgets in the incorrect size. If this happens, launch the widgets on your primary monitor first, then on your secondary monitors, using touch or the WIN + W shortcut.
    • [Family Widget] Even if screen time settings are enabled, some users may see a warning that says “connect a device to see screen time activity.”
    • [Family Widget] On iOS, certain users may not be able to get location information.
  • Store:
    • We’re trying to improve the Store’s search relevance, including correcting an issue where the ordering of search results is sometimes incorrect.
    • In some circumstances, the install button may not be available yet.
    • For some apps, ratings and reviews are not available.
  • Windows Sandbox:
    • In Windows Sandbox, the Taskbar will keep crashing. The team is working on a solution.
  • Localization:
    • Some Insiders may be missing translations from their user experience for a small subset of languages on the newest Insider Preview builds due to an issue. To see if you’ve been affected, go to this Answers forum post and follow the procedures for fixing it.

Later this year, Microsoft is anticipated to begin bringing out Windows 11 to a restricted group of customers. However, there are still some unknowns about the specific hardware requirements for devices to qualify for the updates, which will hopefully be resolved before they become widely available. The underlying pieces of the OS are mostly complete, which is why these releases are cumulative updates rather than completely new builds.
