iPhone 15 Design Revealed by New Apple Exclusive

ShrimpApplePro, a trustworthy Apple insider, has confirmed a leak from the Chinese social media site Weibo (a common source of Apple information), suggesting that the iPhone 15 will be available in three new colours: green, light yellow, and pink. The complete colour palette is as follows:

  • Starlight
  • Green
  • Midnight
  • Light Yellow
  • Pink
  • Product (RED)

The new colours are italicised, and light yellow differs from the original strong yellow finish on the iPhone 14 series. If the source is right, Apple will discontinue blue, purple, and deeper yellow finishes this year.

While opinions on Apple’s colour choices will vary, the true surprise here is the degree of the alterations. Apple usually changes one or two colours per year, but never three. Furthermore, the choices here are eye-opening because, according to a March market report, blue and purple were the most popular colour options for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus consumers.

Pink, on the other hand, has been the most desired iPhone colour for years, and rumours of a bubblegum pink finish originally surfaced in March, but that source also claimed the introduction of a new brighter blue colour. This year, Apple again demonstrated its readiness to accommodate customer demand by producing a 15-inch MacBook Air.

Similar conjecture has surrounded the finishes of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max versions, with contradicting claims claiming that Apple may unveil a new hero colour in dark red or deep blue.

The price of the new iPhone 15 range is also uncertain, with rumours stating that prices for Pro models may rise by as much as $200. A new titanium chassis could play a role in this.

The main enhancements for both models are more certain, with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models receiving a next-generation 3nm A17 processor, extremely thin bezels, enhanced UWB, and a solid-state Action button that replaces the mute switch. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models are believed to mimic the iPhone 14 Pro’s design and employ the A16 chip, while all iPhone 15 models will switch from Lightning to USB-C.

It remains to be seen whether these upgrades will be regarded as “too mediocre of an upgrade.”

07/18 Update: According to sources, Apple is “almost certain” to produce the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus in pink. Although the phrase ‘bubblegum pink’ was not mentioned, it is thought to be vibrant and “eye-catching.” If this is right, I would bet that this is by far the most popular colour for regular iPhone 15 devices.

On the other hand, the same sources have not heard of a brilliant blue finish replacing the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus’s normal blue. This makes sense given the leak of a brighter yellow for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, as Apple is unlikely to rely on brighter versions of existing colours in the same release cycle.

Interestingly, my sources were divided on the hero colour for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, with support for both the dark red finish, which was initially leaked several months ago, and the deep blue finish, which was only published for the first time last week by Unknownz21.

It remains to be seen whether Apple will release both a deep-read iPhone 15 Pro and a bright red (Product)Red iPhone 15. Having said that, the two red colours are significantly different and would be my personal choice.

07/19 Update: According to Unknownz21, a popular leaker, the iPhone 15 colour leaks have taken an interesting turn. When I asked about the Weibo leak, the source said the list “is incomplete, that much I can say.” Unknownz21 stated that they will provide the full-colour list, but did not provide a timeline.

The information is intriguing for a number of reasons. For starters, any extra colours would imply that Apple is expanding the iPhone colour palette, which is unusual. Second, it would continue the company’s tendency of caving to its customers’ wishes, which it has rarely done in the past.

This was clear with the unveiling last month of the 15-inch MacBook Air, a model that enthusiasts have wished for for more than a decade. The business has also historically been conservative with iPhone colour options, sticking to 5/6 colours for base models and more muted colours for the Pros.

It remains to be seen whether this potential expansion for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus means we may also expect more iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max variants. After all, with leakers debating whether the new iPhone 15 Pro colour will be deep red or blue, could the true surprise be that Apple will release both?
