GTA 6 Trailer Confirms 2025 Release and Vice City Setting. The Grand Theft Auto VI teaser has leaked ahead of its official release on Tuesday, leading Rockstar to release it themselves. The first trailer for Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI has premiered after years of rumour and speculation.
GTA 6 Trailer Confirms 2025 Release
The trailer was initially leaked less than a day before its scheduled release, prompting Rockstar to release it early. GTA VI, as previously reported, will send players to Vice City–and the larger state of Leonida–and is set to release in 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar Games has announced that the next GTA game is in the works, but this is the first time we’ve heard anything about what to expect. Based on the teaser, it looks like the rumours about GTA VI featuring two protagonists–a male and a woman–were also correct.
The female character appears to be an ex-con, and we see what appears to be in-game social media, with many TikTok- and Instagram Reel-style videos. In addition to Vice City, Rockstar’s take on Miami, we see the Leonida wetlands and a Florida Man joke.
Other elements include an airboat, an alligator being dragged out of a backyard pool (and subsequently into a store), police bodycam footage, the return of Weazel News, dirt bikes and quads, an alleged convenience store heist, and a lot of neon. Some screenshots from the trailer are shown above.
“Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences,” Rockstar founder Sam Houser stated in a news release. “We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”
According to the press release, the game is set in Leonida, Rockstar’s version of Florida, where players will explore “the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond.”
Other than confirming the name, setting, and release date window, none of this is especially enlightening about how this game will be a step forward from Grand Theft Auto V, which was released in 2013.
There’s also no word on what to expect from GTA Online–whether Rockstar will create a new standalone mode, continue to evolve the present game, or anything else. According to the press announcement, GTA VI is the “biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.”
As previously stated, the game will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025. The press statement makes no mention of a PC version; it’s possible that, as with GTA V, one will be released later.
The trailer was first leaked by a Twitter/X user. The account was suspended in less than an hour, as expected. Rockstar later tweeted, “Our trailer has leaked, so please watch the real thing on YouTube.” Javier Altman, a senior gameplay designer at Rockstar, tweeted, “I was hoping to watch this for the first time tomorrow along with my fellow teammates and coworkers.” “I believe we earned that moment.”
