Lost FireStick Remote

What to Do If You Forgot or Lost FireStick Remote? “It’s probably under the sofa,” is the typical reaction if you lose ANY remote, including the Fire TV Stick remote. If you’ve looked everywhere and still can’t find the misplaced Firestick remote, don’t despair. There are still some methods for using the Fire TV Stick without the hardware control. I’ve compiled a list of all the various scenarios in which you can use your Fire TV Stick even if you’ve misplaced the FireStick remote. Let’s get this party started.

Forgot or Lost FireStick Remote

The Fire TV Stick has a Wi-Fi connection, and when you initially set it up, you use the remote to navigate the interface and save the WiFi details on the device. If you lose your remote, the Fire TV Stick will still turn on and connect to Wi-Fi. But you can’t do anything because you don’t have a remote.

This scenario worsens if you move out of the range of your default WiFi, which might happen if you take the FireStick elsewhere and forget or lose the remote. I attempted to resolve this issue by listing 5 ways to utilise your FireStick without the Fire TV Stick control.

How to use the FireStick Without a Remote Control?

Here is the list of 5 Methods to Find Forgot or Lost FireStick Remote:

Method #1: Use the older Firestick remote

Because the Amazon Fire TV Stick is backwards compatible, you may simply use a previous Fire TV Stick’s remote as your default. The previous-generation remote lacked a few buttons, including volume, mute, and power. If you use the previous-generation remote with the 4K Firestick, you’ll miss out on those buttons. Everything else would be the same.

There are numerous hidden key combinations on the Firestick remote, including the ability to reset the remote. To link the previous-generation remote with the newer FireStick, just press and hold the Home, Back, & Left arrow key buttons for 10 seconds before restarting your FireStick. After you reboot, the new (technically older) remote will pair automatically.

Method #2: To control FireStick, use the remote control that came with your TV

Most Smart TVs include HDMI-CEC or Consumer Electronics Control. It is essentially an interface that allows you to use the TV’s remote to control electronics devices connected to your TV via HDMI. It’s a fantastic function for when you don’t want to use numerous remotes or lose one.

Most TVs have the feature enabled by default, but we’ll double-check before going. Because each TV maker labels this feature differently, you may have to look it up. LG, for example, names it SimpLink, Philips EasyLink, Hitachi HDMI-CEC, Sony Bravia Sync, and so on. Look for and enable the HDMI CEC option in the TV’s settings. To navigate the Firestick, simply use the arrow keys on the TV. However, because each TV maker changes and implements technologies in their own unique way, the experience may differ and some features may not work.

Method #3: If the Firestick remote is misplaced within the home

For those who are unaware, you can navigate and operate the FireStick with your smartphone. If you’re on the same network as your firestick, you can just log in to the app and begin using your phone as a fully working remote.

  1. First, download the Fire TV app from the Google Play or Apple App Store. Launch the app from the app drawer after installing it. If you’re on the same network, your Firestick should appear in the app without you having to log in. When you press the Fire TV Stick on your phone, the app will request you to enter a four-digit PIN.
  2. Enter the code that appears on the TV to connect the Fire TV remote app to your FireStick.
  3. Now that everything is in place, your app should resemble the image below. This is the FireStick’s digital remote, and you may swipe the empty area to simulate arrow keys & tap the empty space to press OK. With the remote app, you may access Settings, use Alexa, write URLs with the smartphone keyboard, and so forth.
  4. The app is a good substitute for the classic remote and can be used when you can’t find your remote or you’re too lazy to get up and retrieve it.

Method #4: When you misplace the Firestick Remote while away from home

Because the Fire TV Stick is already linked to your home Wi-Fi, connecting the smartphone app was simple. However, if you are away from home and have forgotten the remote, it will require more effort to get it running.

  1. You’ll need two smartphones: one to operate as the FireStick’s remote and the other to create a WiFi hotspot. Because the iPhone’s hotspot name cannot be altered, I recommend using a Mac computer, a Windows PC, or an Android smartphone with an active internet connection.
  2. Install the Fire TV application on your smartphone, log in with your Amazon credentials, and then set it away, just like we did before. This next step is critical to the overall success of the procedure. We’ll set up a Wi-Fi hotspot using the same credentials as your home Wi-Fi. Because the Wi-Fi name and password are case-sensitive, construct a hotspot with that in mind.
  3. Make a new hotspot with the same name and password as the one to which your firestick was previously connected. Connect the Fire TV Stick to the TV and turn it on after that. It should instantly connect to the newly formed Wifi hotspot. Connect the second smartphone to the same wireless network.
  4. That’s it; your Fire TV Stick should appear on the Fire TV remote as a result of the hotspot you just setup. However, if you want to use FireStick in the new location, you can change the WiFi now.
  5. On the Fire TV Stick, go to Settings > Network > choose the Wifi Network > enter the password.

Method #5: With the FireStick, utilise a keyboard or a mouse

The methods described above are sufficient to provide complete functioning when the remote is lost, however, if you want to browse the internet on a sideloaded Firestick app, such as a web browser, the FireStick remote lacks the functions of a full-sized keyboard. A micro USB splitter from Amazon can be used to connect an external mouse or keyboard.

Conclusion

These are some options to consider if you’ve misplaced your Fire TV Stick control. When you lose the remote within the house, the official app is the go-to solution. However, it does not work if you are not at home. By using the methods outlined above, you may easily modify the Wi-Fi and make the gadget work even without the remote.
