Apple has publicly urged consumers not to immerse their iPhones in rice if they receive a “liquid detected” notification. The support note was released last month and was first brought to attention yesterday by Macworld, a news source for Apple goods.
Putting a drenched phone in uncooked rice is a popular Internet myth for saving it if it is accidentally thrown into the water, but it has previously been debunked.
According to a 2014 study conducted by an electronic equipment rescue service, rice was ineffective for drying a cell phone and was less effective than letting the gadget out to dry.
What does Apple suggest?
When an iPhone user receives a “liquid detection” alert, it usually indicates that liquid was detected in the lightning or USB-C connectors.
In this case, Apple does not advocate charging the phone while wet, but you can use a wireless charger as long as the back of the smartphone is dry.
If your iPhone is wet, tap it on your hand with “the connector facing down to remove excess liquid, ” then place it somewhere dry. After 30 minutes, try charging it again.
If you continue to receive liquid alerts, the tech company suggests placing it “in a dry area with some airflow for up to a day,” which may be up to 24 hours.
If it is still not charging, unhook the cord and adapter and reconnect them.

What are you not supposed to do?
According to Apple, iPhone users should not use “external heat source or compressed air to dry your phone”. It is not suggested to dry the connector with a cotton swab or paper towel.
Finally, Apple advised against putting the phone in a bag of rice: “Doing so could allow small particles of rice to damage your iPhone”.
Apple’s iPhone models 7 and higher are all splash, water, and dustproof, having undergone laboratory testing.
The most recent phones (iPhone 12 and beyond) can withstand being dropped in water as deep as 6 metres for up to 30 minutes.
