Users of Meta Quest 3 have reported tracking problems with the new controller. Dissatisfied users complain of poor tracking and responsiveness from Touch Plus controllers on the Meta Quest 3. The Quest 3 is Meta’s third venture into creating stand-alone VR headsets, making it one of the more experienced businesses in the VR headset space. Even this abundance of experience, however, cannot totally eliminate technical difficulties. This appears to be the case for some Meta Quest 3 owners, who are reporting tracking troubles with the Quest 3’s Touch Plus controllers.

Users of Meta Quest 3 have reported tracking problems with the new controller
According to The Verge, several players have complained on the Meta community forums that the tracking performance of the Quest 3 controllers feels inferior to the Quest 2 equivalents. One user, NotDream, complained that while playing Gorilla Tag, a game with a lot of fast-paced movements, the controllers were losing track during medium-to-fast hand movements like tossing or receiving a ball.
Other popular VR videogames involving fast controller motions, such as Beat Sabre, Supernatural, and Tennis Esports, have also been affected, according to commenters on the same forum. Similar issues have been reported by Reddit users, who appear to mostly affect competitive gamers who employ attachments such as battling handles to make motions feel more natural and realistic, particularly in sports titles.
Carrotstein, a game developer who worked on Eleven Table Tennis, bemoaned that creators of sports VR titles were not consulted during the design phase of the Quest 3 controllers, and hypothesised that the problems were caused by the arrangement of LEDs on the controller. Carrotstein went on to say that because of the performance concerns, some consumers were returning their new Quest 3 headsets and continuing with the Quest 2.
NotDream’s post was responded to by Meta Quest Support, who stated that the engineering team was actively studying these issues and striving to improve performance, particularly for competitive players in fast-paced PvP and sports games. Some of the repairs and enhancements are expected to be included in future scheduled versions. We will keep you updated when new information becomes available.
