The planned “search message by date” function will be made available to a restricted group of beta testers, allowing them to quickly retrieve messages sent on a specific date within their discussions.
“Thanks to this feature, WhatsApp would have offered users a more efficient and convenient way to navigate through their message history when searching for messages,” the update said.
The enhanced search capability will make it easier to locate any communication from a certain date or to get critical information about a former incident.
Users can search for messages from a certain date by selecting a date from the date picker window that comes after clicking the calendar button, as illustrated in this example.
The feature will initially be available to a restricted set of beta testers who have the most recent version of WhatsApp Web, with a wider deployment to more people coming in the following days.
According to WABetaInfo, the date-based search tool now allows users to quickly identify messages from a given day.
“This not only saves time but also reduces the frustration of scrolling through long chat histories.”
To be more specific, this capability will be useful in looking for non-text messages, such as voice notes, which can be difficult to find due to a lack of text transcriptions for such information. It is especially helpful when users are unable to recollect the exact language of a text message.
