The Play Store now differentiates between apps and games, a likely response to mobile gaming’s increasing prominence. According to a report released by App Annie this summer, mobile games account for 33 percent of app installs.

But while users may not install mobile games like other apps frequently (or spend as much time on them), there are mobile games where they throw their dollars. Mobile games account for 74 percent of consumer spending on apps because of in-app purchases.
To accommodate gamers, Google Play has made other recent changes. A new landing page for game developers has recently been launched, filled with guides, tools, and other resources. It opened up Instant App tech to mobile games last year, allowing users of Android to play games before buying them.

There are also separate categories for movies as well as books in addition to apps and games. This shift will make finding top-grossing titles by entertainment form easier for consumers. Users who use a mobile device to access the Play Store will also notice at the bottom a new navigation bar. On tablets and the Chrome OS, there’s also new left navigation.
The Google Play Store’s ability to redesign has been in the works for a while, but now it’s official. “We’re excited to roll out a complete visual redesign to improve the overall store experience. In line with the language of material design, we are introducing several user-facing updates to deliver a cleaner, more premium store that improves app discovery and accessibility for our diverse set of users, “wrote Boris Valusek of Google Play in a blog post.
